The Woodlands Township Board holds meetings, discusses incorporation matters

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (February 24, 2017) – The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held a special strategic planning session followed by a regular meeting Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at The Woodlands Township Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard.

During the planning session, The Woodlands Township Board of Directors discussed a variety of matters relating to incorporation including the annual governance assessment report, the types of analysis and studies that should be completed and the specific responsibility of an incorporated city government versus the Township’s services and responsibilities as a special purpose district.

Staff was directed to compile a list of potential organizations and consulting firms that could be retained by the Township to develop a comprehensive analysis regarding all aspects of incorporation. The Board deferred discussion regarding incorporation analysis timelines and the development of an incorporation fact sheet to a Board of Directors meeting in April.

Immediately following the session, the Board of Directors convened for the regular meeting and took the following actions on the Consent Agenda:

  • Authorized the solicitation of an Invitation for Bid (IFB) for park and ride security services.
  • Approved a resolution adopting a list of qualified brokers authorized to engage in investment transactions with The Woodlands Township.

The Board of Directors then moved on to take the following actions on the Regular Agenda:

  • Deferred matters relating to proposed Board Chamber improvements to resolve existing operational and acoustical challenges to the March 22, 2017, Board of Directors meeting.
  • Deferred matters regarding legislation impacting the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District until the completion of the 85th Legislative Session.
  • Received and accepted an update on the operations plan for the Recreation Center in the Village of Creekside Park. The Parks and Recreation Department presented the proposed plan for a “rolling” facility opening which provides limited public use of the facility as early as mid-March, with increased usage as scheduled repairs and renovations are completed.
  • Received and accepted the December 2016 financial report for The Woodlands Township.
  • Approved recommended amendments to the Conroe-The Woodlands UZA Transit Advisory Committee bylaws.
  • Took no action on matters relating to the creation of a Citizen Response Task Force to address issues of community concern that arise on an ongoing basis.
