The Woodlands Township Board holds meeting

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (July 21, 2017) – The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held a regular meeting on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at The Woodlands Township Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard.

At the start of the meeting, President/General Manager Don Norrell provided a report regarding the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park and the upcoming budget process. In late 2016, the Township purchased the former YMCA property in the Village of Creekside Park, and the property has been rebranded as The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park, tying it into the adjacent Township pool and lodge facilities. The Township is in the process of renovating the new facility to meet Township needs, as approved by the Board. A few “soft opening” activities have been held at the facility and the property is currently the site of the Township’s summer camp programs; however, all other activity is limited due to the ongoing facility renovations. The facility is not open for regular hours yet and the front desk is not staffed for calls from the public or registrations except during the times of scheduled programs and camps. Residents continue to be directed to The Recreation Center at Bear Branch Park for full-service registration matters. A grand opening event for the new Rec Center will be scheduled when all facility renovations are complete, which is currently slated for late August or early September.

The 2018 Budget process will begin Monday, August 14, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. The Board begin its discussion of the base budget and budget initiatives. During the process, the Board will also be discussing the 5 year plan.

The Board of Directors took the following actions on the Consent Agenda:

  • Received Administrative Reports from Township departments;
  • Awarded a contract for remodeling of the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park (C-2017-0311);

The Board of Directors then moved on to take the following actions on the Regular Agenda:

  • Appointed Chris LaRue, Transit Program Manager for the Township, to serve on the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) High Capacity Transit Task Force.
  • Deferred the election of the Montgomery Central Appraisal District Special District candidate to be placed on a county-wide ballot for the Board of Directors of the Montgomery Central Appraisal District;
  • Received a presentation from Rhythm Engineering regarding an Adaptive Traffic Control System. The Board asked for Township Transit Planner Chris LaRue to gather more information regarding the topic for future discussion.
